The south pole of the Moon

This photo is one of the first photos taken with the new telescope on October 9, 2020 at 22:21 UT.

You can see the region near the south pole with many craters during the local sunset, then the shadows are very long.

The most evident craters of this area are Clavius (225 km), Tycho (86 km) and Maginus (164 km) and the smallest craters have a diameter of about 5 km.

In the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey” the moon base was located in Clavius crater while the monolith was discovered inside the Ticho crater.
